The wishlist #1

Today I will take my blog to a whole other level. No writing about thoughts, I'm going to show you what I am putting on my wishlist for when I can afford these things. I'm secretly hoping it won't take that long, but well, a girl can dream, right?

I first saw the collection of Maurie & Eve here without paying a lot of attention to it, as winter is right around the corner and all I can think about is tea and fuzzy socks. But there's something so young yet sophisticated about the summer 2013 collection that I couldn't resist checking their website. My god, am I hooked. Here are three of the outfits that I would love to see in my closet.

Can we just skip winter and forward to summer already?

The exposure

As I study marketing and as nowadays social media is the next big thing, I come along the matter of exposure on the internet a lot. Also, my friends and I were talking about this a couple of days ago and it got me thinking.

It's all known that whatever site you visit or whatever links you click on influence the sort of advertising you will be exposed to on social networking sites. For example, I see a lot of advertising about shoes, online shopping, clothes, makeup and travel. That pretty much sums up my biggest interests and you could easily guess what kind of personality I could have. This is already the beginning of crossing the privacy line, in my opinion. However, I feel like there is so much more of us floating around on the internet without us knowing, or at least without us realizing that.

For example, how many times have you entered a competition online, and you had to fill in your email address and your personal information? How many sites have you joined over the past few years, going from online shopping sites such as ebay to social networking sites like twitter. All these profiles contain information about your home address, your bank details, your phone number, and I can go on for ages. I have tried to limit the information that can be found about me, like deleting old profiles and unsubscribing from newsletters, but it's literally impossible to control what other people can find out about you. Every tweet, like, posted picture or blogpost ever written by you, in your name, is somewhere lost on the internet and ready to be found. I find that this invades my privacy, but it's the result of my own actions, which makes it sad.

To take it even further, iOS 7 for Iphone 5S can be featured with a thumbreading application, where your fingerprint can be read to unlock your phone. Don't even get me started on this one. I know that I have not made the best decisions in my life regarding what to post and what not to post, but come on, fingerprints?! You might as well give Apple your bank details and your legal records so they can track your path of life for the rest of your days. CSI World edition, anyone?

The early resolutions

For as long as I can remember, people make their resolutions at new year's. The beginning of a new year means a new start to a lot of us, a way to rebuild your life and be full of determination. However, I feel like throughout the year, these resolutions kind of fade away (most of them), and the everyday routine of our lives does not seem to feel different or 'new'.

At one point, I stopped making resolutions. I knew that a couple of months later I didn't bother to stick to them anyways or I was too busy enjoying student life to fulfil whatever good intentions I had in the beginning of the year. Instead, I realised that everyday is an opportunity to make a resolution. Everyday you can say to yourself to start doing stuff that you neglected earlier, everyday you can say to yourself to do something new. Here are some resolutions I am currently realising:

  • Start blogilates.
You should definitely check this out. It is a youtube channel where you can do pilates at home, guided by a girl called Cassey. She's the most inspirational trainer I ever had, haha!
  • Figure out what to do after my bachelor.
When I started my studies everything for me was planned for three years. I knew exactly to which country I would go and in which universities I would study throughout these years. But now that my bachelor diploma is within reach, the pressure of 'what's next' is creeping upon me. Still figuring it out.
  • Succesfully maintain a long distance relationship.I live in the United Kingdom, my boyfriend lives in Belgium.

At last, here's a quote that I find very inspiring. Everytime I read it I remind myself to take a leap sometimes, to make things happen.

The interratial one

This weekend my boyfriend came to visit me here in Coventry. He lives in Belgium, I live in the United Kingdom for one year. Another unusual thing is that he's black and I'm white. Or that's what people say at least.

To explain this post, I just want to say that I am very open minded towards quite a lot of things (not about schedules though. Never mess with the schedules.). I am the kind of person that respects others' opinion, because they're allowed to have their own thoughts about stuff. However, I feel like a lot of people are too narrow minded these days. I feel it in my home country and I feel it here, in the UK. Despite the digital revolution, where you can talk to people from where ever, no matter the place they come from or the skin color they have, it seems like everyone kind of gets along. But once it happens in real life, when two people really hit it of and they happen to be from different racial backgrounds, it seems like columbus just woke up from death and declared the whole white population as Indians (this may be a bit exaggerated, but you get my point).

I have good friends of mine that tell me they don't understand how I can be with someone that does not have the same skin color as me. I always tell them that I don't see the difference. To me he is as white as I am, and I am as black as he is. For now, he is the person I really love, and I fell in love with him for his personality, and the way he treats me and makes me feel like I can be a better person.

How come skin color still matter that much? How come people treat you differently when you happen to look darker or mighter than anyone else? It has affected those people, and for me, as a person that is very close to someone who is considered 'outside of the norm', it affects me. I can feel the way people look when we kiss, I can see how they fringe when we hold hands. I find this quite unfair, and very superficial.

I appologise if I am overreacting, because I may have a bit of a distorded vision on this as I am in the middle the situation. I would like to know if some of you think the same, so please feel free to comment!

The music edition #1

I have always loved the deep house, experiential electronic type of music. I find it very relaxing whilst in the same time it brings me in a good mood. Don't get me wrong, from time to time I need my portion of Destiny's Child and Lady Gaga, but mostly I like the non-commercial music scene.

Bondax really fits that category. Their music is chill but up-beat and I love how they corporate the lyrics with the rythm of the song. You might find it a bit hispter-ish, but I am okay with that! Have a listen, tell me what you think about it!

Bondax - You're so

Bondax - Giving it all

On a complete other note, my boyfriend is coming to England today and I'm beyond excited! Yay!
(For those of you that don't know, I am studying in England for a year, but I'm Belgian and my boyfriend is as well.)

The fading friends

I like to meet up with old friends, the ones you once had a good time with and then faded away along the years. My really good friends I can count on one hand. However, I remember in high school, when I was about fifteen years old, I thought all my friends would last forever and I would always keep in contact with them, no matter what. Now, five years later, I'm left with some of my friends from high school, but the ones I consider the most valuable, I have met only in the last three years.

To provide you guys a little background, my studies are not the average studies you would expect. I am doing a bachelor degree in European Business Management and Marketing, which takes three years to finish. However, I study those three years in three different countries thus three different universities. My first year - in Denmark - I met the friends I was talking about that I'm sure I will remember for all my life and I will have contact with them for a long period of time after college will end for me. You know, I like to call those friends 'the wedding friends'. The ones you really want to be there when you get married. There are about four of them, which I consider as enough, since I have about the same amount of friends from high school that I can call 'wedding friends'.

The point of this post is:
how come friends you once were so close to, can fade away within a year of seperation?
Of course, you grow apart a little. You may go to different colleges or universities. You may choose a different country to live in. You may even choose to completely turn your life around. People change, but can they change so much that contacts once so tight can turn into a long forgotten memory? Is it possible that by the age of fifty, we are nothing like we used to be when we were in our twenties? Is there nothing of our youthfulness that will stay when growing up, when aging, when building our lives?

It scares me that already now, with only twenty years old, I feel like my life is very different from when I was fifteen. Every single decision you make changes the path your life will take in the future. That's frightening. I guess that's why someone invented vodka.

The first one

So this is me, trying to write a good first blog post with my newly manicured fingernails. I feel like there is a huge pressure on the first post. It has to be good, it has to kind of start the blog with a vibe that you would like to be able to continue throughout the whole experience of writing things down. It has to be the gun shot of a new project, managed by the writer.

Anyways, the reason why I am trying to make this work is because I would love to get into the world of magazine design, publishing, adverstising, you name it. My 'creative enterprise' lecturer told me to start blogging, to start understand the direction I want to follow and what my interests are. This way I can gain experience, even if not a lot of people will read my blog, it will still develop my writing skills. I guess this makes sense. However, I would like to create something others will appreciate and like to read, as much as I appreciate it to write down my feelings and opinions.

I suppose this blog will be about my interests, my frustrations and about things I don't understand. The latter is because I like to discuss stuff. I am a person that is genuinely interested in other people's opinions. I can truly except the different mind sets others have, and I find it interesting how some people form their impressions of stuff, and how they can completely differ from mine. Though, it can be frustrating sometimes.

Back to the interests part. Some of them are for example makeup and fashion (huge interests of mine actually) as well as books and culture. So bear with me, I'm not sure if I will find a 'theme' for this blog, but we'll see. I have time to figure it out!

Wright to you later.
